essay : This paper is due by Friday, February 15 at 11:59 pm EST.  It should be about 1000 words in length and be prepared in APA style.  This paper is the first step in the development of your individual research paper for the class.  In that paper, your task is to identify one of the key “great challenges” facing humanity and human society over the coming century, explain its nature and why it is difficult to address, and consider some potential approaches we can take to overcoming that challenge.   In this short paper, your assignment is to begin the process of developing this analysis.  More specifically, in this paper your task is to:1. Identify the challenge that will be the subject of their research paper2. Explain the nature and origins of this problem – What kind of challenge does it present?3. Consider why addressing this challenge is so important for the future of humanity and human society.Your analysis should be based on research that includes scholarly and professional sources.  It is important to note that this is your first step in grappling with the challenge.  You may adjust or change your analysis by the time you get to the final paper…that is fine.  The goal here is to get you started on the larger project. What counts as a “great challenge”?  There is no complete or final list, and you are free to suggest topics for my approval.  Two good places to look are the course description on the Canvas home page, and the themes in the course modules.  With that in mind, here are some suggestions…many of which can be narrowed down for your paper:- The challenge(s) of Environmental Sustainability, including but not limited to climate change – population, agriculture, and food supply, rising sea levels, adapting to a warmer climate, the move away from carbon to renewable energy technologies, etc.  How do these challenges impact individuals, communities, business, politics, religion, etc.?- The challenges of Adapting and Managing Emerging Technologies.  How do these – digital technologies, the internet, smartphones, etc.    – change psychological and social dynamics?  How to we limit the possibilities they present for surveillance and control of human behavior?  Can we remain free, and/or preserve any notion of privacy, in a world of digital surveillance?  What political dangers and opportunities do these technologies present?  What dangers and opportunities to they present for business? – What will be the future of Globalization and the Global Economy and how will that impact different societies?  Will we have more inequality or move towards a more equitable and just world?  Will we see the fragmentation of the global economy into different spheres/regions, and what will be the implications for business, politics, etc.”? – What is the future of Human Migration, and how will it shape economics, politics, culture, and social cohesion?   [This topic can be approached a number of ways – vis climate change, economics, political conflict, cultural change, etc.]- Will humanity Survive future Global Pandemics?  What are the sources of these pandemics and why are they likely to be more common?  What resources to we have – as individuals, communities, businesses, and states – to try to manage and reduce this threat?  Even if we have the resources to control pandemics, are we likely to do so?- Is the organization of the world in separate Nation-States outdated?  Does such a structure doom humanity to failure in its dealing with key “great challenges,” most of which do not respect national borders?- How is Human Culture evolving?  Will science continue to play a central role in the way we interact with the world, or will it be displaced by religion?  Will national and ethnic culturessurvive or will the forces of migration, communication, and economics gradually create one multicultural global society?  [Key areas can be used as examples – music, food, fashion, family life, the “culture” of work, etc.]These are just some examples.  I am happy to help you develop a paper topic and to review drafts of your paper.

It depicts the relationship between your program’s activities and its intended effects, in an implicit ‘if-then’ relationship among the program elements — if I do this activity, then I expect this outcome. Among other things, a logic model helps clarify the boundary between ‘what’ the program is doing and ‘so what’—the changes that are intended to result from strong implementation of the “what.” Logic Models often include 5 core components of the program action: INPUTS: resources, contributions, investments that go into the program OUTPUTS: activities, services, events, and products that reach people who participate or who are targeted OUTCOMES: results or changes for individuals, groups, communities, organizations, communities, or systems Assumptions: the beliefs we have about the program, the people involved, and the context and the way we think the program will work External Factors: the environment in which the program exists includes a variety of external factors that interact with and influence the program’s action. (Refer to Chapter 8): Imagine that your healthcare organization is starting a health program for chronic illness prevention (i.e., diabetes, obesity, asthma, etc.). You have been charged with leading a team to address the health information technology issues related to that program. What steps would you take? What would be your top three (3) concerns?  Choose one article pertaining to your topic that you submitted for assignment #1  Prepare an annotated bibliography of one source you will use in developing your proposed program. No exceptions are allowed.  REQUIRED COMPONENTS for Annotated Bibliography: Specifically prepare an annotated bibliography, which is a list of citations in appropriate APA format with 2-4 sentences that summarize the main idea(s) of the item and 1-2 sentences that relate the material to your topic. They must be articles from scholarly/peer-reviewed journals. See example: ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY  AuBuchon, J. P. (2005). Meeting transfusion safety expectations. Annals of Internal Medicine, 143(7), 537-8. Retrieved from: Pro Quest (Links to an external site.) This journal argues the steps needed to understand the risks associated with virologic transmission in our blood supply, and the importance of meeting blood transfusion safety for the public and the health care industry needs to constantly reexamine its procedures. AuBuchon (2005) makes a good case for those in the public health care services, to be aware of the impacts on transfusion recipients’ morbidity and mortality; and gives us examples in which we have to change the way we handle blood and blood products. With the appearance of West Nile virus in 2002, there has been a rapid adaptation of nucleic acid testing systems in order to maintain the safety of our blood, but at what cost, and how can we improve the quality when the donors’ health history statements have turned out to be unreliable. Need help with my Social Science question – I’m studying for my class .
GOAL OF THIS DISCUSSIONEnvision yourself as a program product evaluation consultant, helping researchers to explore the outcomes of their programs . Joan comes to you and ask you to help her choose the best research methods for evaluating the outcomes of the two types of foster parent education class . She is not sure how to proceed because there are many elements of an evaluation from which she may choose, and she wants your views on the best research design methods for gathering the information she needs to select the better program . Your first task involves asking Joan about the research conditions she has planned . She explains them as follows 1 . Joan’s research questionJoan explains that she wants to know which program (the older program or the new program she has developed) is better for “reducing foster placement disruptions, improving the quality of services delivered [by foster parents], and increasing child well-being through better trained and skilled foster families” . 2 . Characteristics of the prospective foster parents and their previous training or experience as foster parents . Let’s assume that the prospective foster parents have no prior experience or training in child development or in dealing with traumatized children who are in the care of Walden County Child Welfare for foster care placement . 3 . Method for assigning the participants to groups . The prospective foster parents are assigned to the older training OR to Joan’s new training program . Participants do not take both trainings . Joan explains that one site offers the older program and one site offers the new program she has developed . She stated that the participants are not randomly assigned to the different sites, but amazingly, all the prospective foster parents have identical demographics, so the foster parents at each site and exactly like the foster parents at the other sites . Consequently, the only difference between the two groups is the training that they receive . 4 . Features of the trainers . Joan explains that the trainers are highly competent in delivering both the original and the new program . These trainers go from site to site, providing the program that is assigned for the site (either the original or the new program) . Since the trainings are conducted by the same social workers, the effect of the trainer is the same for all groups . 5 . Outcomes/impacts . Joan must select measurable outcomes of the training to compare between the groups who are given the older training and the groups who are given Joan’s new training . She will determine the quality of the training by measuring outcomes to answer her research question listed above . From the description of the study, it appears that the prospective foster parents will have foster children assigned to them after they successfully complete the training and foster child placements are made in their homes . Consequently, it is not possible for us to assess which training prevents more disruptions and improves services until the foster parents have had children assigned to them . For the purposes of this discussion, let’s assume that the program evaluation will occur six months after the training programs are completed and children are placed in the foster parents’ homes . With these assumptions and descriptions, your task in this discussion is to act as Joan’s research consultant, informing Joan (and us) about the best research design to answer her research questions and suggesting how she might conduct her program evaluation . By Day 3Complete your original post (due Wednesday at 11 59 pm, Mountain time) . Use the learning resources to support your recommendations to Joan and follow the format below to insert your answers . Your task 1 . Identify two outcomes/impacts related to changes or effectiveness that you think would be useful for Joan’s product/outcome evaluation . Select two outcomes from the items listed here and place them in Column 1 of Table 1 under Development of foster parents’ skill learning 1 . 1 . development of foster parents’ skill learning (Everyone must include this outcome in their evaluation . )2 . participants’ judgments about program activities and/or staff;3 . foster parents’ increased knowledge of needs of foster children;4 . foster parents’ increased understanding of appropriate expectations for traumatized children;5 . increased awareness of development of children at different ages6 . fewer requests for reassignments of foster children by foster parent or foster child due to unsatisfactory placement; 7 . presence or absence of short- or long-term anticipated benefits 8 . unintended negative consequences of the program9 . Any indicator of interest to YOU from Sample evaluation questions about outcomes from the University of Wisconsin-Extension (2008), below . No single evaluation would try to answer all these questions . When conducting an evaluation select questions that are relevant to the purposes of the evaluation . Sample evaluation questions about outcomes/impactsWhat do people do differently as a result of the program? What do people learn, gain, accomplish? What changes occur [and for whom] as a result of the program? [Do different changes occur for people with differences in] gender, socio-economic status, lifestyle, religion, education, ethnicity, previous experience, situation, etc . ?Who benefits [from the program] and how? What are the [emotional, physical], social, economic, [and] environmental impacts [of the program] (positive and negative) on people, communities, the environment? What is the extent of the impact? To what extent have we reached our goals [or] performance targets? What program factor[s] or activities relate to better outcomes? Which seem to help participants the most? The least? Are participants satisfied with what they gained from the program? How do the outcomes of this program compare to other, similar programs? Is the program efficient? That is, does it produce beneficial results without excessive outlay of time, effort, and resources? Are the results worth the money and time invested into it? How efficiently are clientele and agency resources being used? How well does the program respond to the [statement of] need and program purpose?(Adapted from University of Wisconsin-Extension, Cooperative Extension, 2008)2 . After selecting your outcome or impact indicators and entering them into Table 1, identify a source of information (persons, records, other data) for each of the outcomes you selected . 3 .
